G.B.Pant
University being a leading agricultural university
of India has always tried to contribute its best towards the development
of the country. It not only includes developing and practicing the new
ways and methods of cultivation but also strengthening the cultivators
socially and economically. The university has tried to achieve the latter
goal by providing farmers with the most modern
methods of crop production and making available to them the best
techniques and equipments. The Kisan Mela organized biannually in the
university is just a part of this effort.
The
Kisan Mela was organized from 8th to 11th of march
2006 in the Gandhi park in the university campus. It was inaugurated
by the Vice Chancellor, Mr. P.L. Gautam and was attended by the people
from nearby towns and villages. Spread over a vast area, there were
stalls ranging from agricultural and household products to food and
fun games.
Keeping
in view the basic aim of the fair a major number of students were devoted
to the needs of farmers. There were stalls offering the latest in high
yielding variety seeds, fertilizers and pesticides etc. Another section
had stalls displaying the most advanced of agricultural equipments like
tractors, harvesters, automobiles etc.. Apart from these there were
agricultural publications, electronic items, household products etc.
the stalls of food and games were a huge draw. Societies
like SAVEN and VSM also had their stalls in the fair. At the
end of each day there was a special arrangement for entertainment of
people in the form of magic shows and cultural events. Many lectures
and seminars were also organized for the benefit of farmers where their
problems and queries were answered by the best experts in their respective
fields.
The
successful organization of the Kisan Mela once again brought the university
one step closer to its aim of establishing better communication with
the farmers.
